Arantxa's final post

Hi everyone!

After the Easter holidays, here we are again, starting the last period of this course. And I haven’t forgotten to do my last post for the blog. So...here it is.

I feel that this course has helped me to refresh my English and to improve it a little bit more. I also think, like some colleagues, that it would have been better if it had different levels. Anyway, I think it was as good as it can be. In my opinion it was a good idea to start warming up with entretaining exercises, to put into practice vocabulary and to speak, helping to get rid of the usual embarrassment. It was always an effort for me to start the class, and these exercises helped me.

Moreover, it has been interesting to work on our grammar through the Internet and with the Wiki.

I think proposing exercises about different topics each week is a good way to learn vocabulary from different aspects of life. However, sometimes there were too many exercises, and I couldn’t to do all of them. Also, in some occasions, we almost didn’t work about these topics in the next class.

In general, I enjoyed working in small groups, and the role-playing exercises that we have done sometimes. It was indeed a very dynamic course. I still keep on being a little bit blocked when I start speaking English, or when I try to understand every single word that someone is telling me. But I hope that with a bit more practise, and a bit less fear, I will improve my level in the next few months. But I need to persist, of course!

Thank you for everything, to my colleagues and to David.

This is the end my friends

HI everyone!
Thanks you all, the ones that attended classes regualrly, and the ones who did not too.
Thanks to the ones who did a constant work throughout the entire course, and to the ones who worked occasionally for different reasons. All of you will have walked out of this course with the feeling of having learnt something from it, whether that be the language, the need to devote time to learn, or some technological skills.
Whatever your case is, along with the frustrations the course may have causesd you in terms of unfulfilled expectations from the course itself of of any other nature, I would like to express my deepest gratitude for having given me the chance to share this time with you, and have learnt from you in many ways as well.
I would like to finish this farewell by saying that do not stop the process of learning the language here, that this course should mean for you a springbooard to a lifelong process of improvement in the language, and also enjoyment from being exposed to the language and the culture it entails.
For any comments you may have about language or ways of working with it, do not hesitate to ask.
By the way, below your final reflections, I have attached a brief comment to your overall performance.
Good Luck!!!

Tuesday, April 1, 2009Mª Jesus´ comments in the English course.Hello teacher and partners, this is the end of the course and It´s a pity because I´ve enjoyed very much with the activities and performance. We laughed very much while we were working together in our English class.I had some informatic difficulties to go into the web pages and to put my works and save it in the wiki page, but finally It has been easier that I had thought.I think that this course have been very interesting; well, in order to say something negative, perhaps we didn´t have enough time to do everything because we needed more time to learn all the contents, videos, web pages...I think that the wiki is a good way to improve our English.Thank you very much.

Last remark.

Hi!

Today is our really last class of the course. Next Thursday we must present our own didactic unit to the others teachers as if they would been our pupils. ¡Horror!

David has told us how we must do this last remark and also he has recommended us: BE HONEST!. I'll do what I can (about english I want say!!! because I  am always honest)

Starting course, David said that we have to work about 30 hours in class and 45 at home, but I have needed 30 hours in class but at home...... 150.

It had been a hard course for me, but I have really enjoyed until today.

We have had many exersices on grammar sheets; we have surfed on the net and we have learned many thing about Martin Luther King, we have travelled safety, we have cooked, we have bought our best clothes for this summer and we have remembered folk tales like Goldielock and the three bears.
It's possible we might speak more in english along the sessions but that is our fault.
Well, I thing I have wrote enough.
Thank you very much, David and partners! I hope to find you in the next Teacher' English Course!

Tomas´& Ana ´s reflexion of english course.

We have done a lot activities which they have improved our english. But we could have worked more. Our problem was that we hadn´t time.

The last english session have clashed with the second evaluation. Now, we are speaking better english that before, although it´s very difficult to speak english when we are living in Spain. We think that we could not speak spanish in english session, but we haven´t done it.

The activities that prepared our teacher, David, were very funny. We have laughed a lot while we are working together in our english session. Perhaps in the future, we could study other english course in Villablanca School.
It´s neccesay a lot of hours to speak a good english.

It´s very confortable to work with the wiki. So everyone can work when he have time.
Also to learn english we have improved our knowledge informatics. Before we haven´t worked with the wiki and we didn´t know the blogs.

final post

Hi colleagues! This is the end of the course.By one side I feel happy because This course gives me a lot of work, and I have done all, each week, each day. I have read everything, and I have listen to everything and I have watched everything that I had to do. I know that perhaps is easier for me than others because I understand english quite well, but sometimes I felt hopeless because I felt that all my work have no sense because we did'nt work these things in class or worst after all we had time in class to do that. I think in my pupils, and I wonder if sometimes the pupils that really work feel like me in class. I don't have much time, I have three little children so I really have made a big effort, I really want to improve my english so I know that really I never wasted my time but sometimes I can't avoid to feel hopeless. Everybody is agree that it should be better if it was different levels but it couldn't be because we were not enough .It is a pity.
Most of the time I enjoyed the course but sometimes I'd like that some activities were faster, we spent to much time in theater, it was funny but i dind't learn so much with it althoug I think that this kind of activities was not special for me
I undestand the effort to do things to people with some different english levels and perhaps it was the only way, but some of us have the feeling that it was so difficult and others the feeling that perhaps we could have learn more.I know more english than before start the course and I have remembered a lot of things that I already known but I finish the course with the feeling that is not enough, in seventy hours I should learn more or at least it was my hope.

We are getting there

Hi everybody!!!
We are all feeling the exhaustion proper of this time of the year prior to the well deserved Easter holidays. YEEEESSSS!!!!!!!
well, now let us be serious. THe case is that we are all working in our didactic units to present them next week as thee final requisite to obtain the certificate for the course. On today's session we are simply allow time to catch up with delayed work, ask questions on course contents, or simply to polish our units with their activities.
I would love before we close this course that everyone posted a final reflection journal entry in the blog as a way to recap what we have (not) done in this course, how ever much (little) i take from this course, what i would have done differently, if my expectations were fulfilled and others you would like to ask.
This final requirement would help us analyze our performance and the others', and put in perspective our work.
Thanks a lot for your hard work.

Videos and audio posted

Hi again!
I forgot to say that videos we recorded about the tramp, and audio with the furby story, are available on the wiki.
You can find them in the folders section on the right hand side of the front page, inside the folder with the name "Audio and Video docs"
I hope you enjoyed them like I did.

Fashion

Hi everyone again!
Another session we start, and now we have to face the use of delicious as a social bookmarking tool. We will start the class with it and, like I said, this time I do not give you clear direct links for elements we must view and read.
I provide you with a general array of sources from where the learner autonomously has to decide in which direction to go, and from there, start building.
I know it is a bit strange at first when you are left out there on your own to explore new things, but this is the exact method we should extend with our students: give them autonomy, guide them and help them face questions and seek the solutions to the problem.
Once you get used to it, it does not feel that strange any more. Believe me.
well, it is going to be another fruitful session.
Cheers

This week the topic is fashion, but I think that the links David has given us are too wide. You can spent hours lose in the web and after all have the feeling that you haven´t learnt nothing and that you can´t speak nothing of what you have seen beacause it is very improbably that your collegues have seen the same as you. I prefered the links of the firsts weeks: MLK, plan crashes, the weather in london.. because I really had the feeling that I had learned something in english and the little time I had was good employed.
Also I recognice that I have problems with the new technology so I don´t know how to use delicius, in this moment it looks like chinese for me.

Cinema, cinema

Hi everybody,
Getting ready for another unforgettable session with the rest of colleagues, and prepared to share some good moments ... and good laughs as well!!!
i would like to remind you about the assignment due last week about web pages connected to our field of expertise; things that we can use in class with our students that come in english, and that we can use for our last session when we present a didactic unit. Just a brief line or two explaining what we can find in them will suffice.
try not to stay too far behind with the grammar revision activities, as later it will be harder to turn in everything.
For this week's session, prepare to watch some clips, trailers connected to awarded films this year, or your all time favorite ones. please share those with the rest of us, and send us some clips for us to watch!

Hi everybody. This week i think is probably I´ll arrive late because my teacher´s son want to see me on thursday at quarter past three, really she want to see al the parents of my son class so i can´t change the date. See you soon.

Very cinematographic pictures

Hi everyone,
Those pictures really loook cool. I am sure they will make a great story. Let us see how creative we can be. Remember! We have to surround that picture we have chosen with pre, during and post events that give meaning to what we see in that shot of the photo.
Then all the pics will come together and will see what we can make of it.
I can't wait to see the final product. I ma sure it will be a story proper of an Oscar winning film!
Cheers,

After a hard week...here I am

Hi everyone! I have just finished to complete the prepositions sheets. I'm agree with my classemates: prepositions are really difficult!

Also, I've been looking for a recipe in Internet. Is it a trick? But I' m going to work with this extensive vocabulary. There are a lot of words that I don't know the meaning. Into the videos too.

My Art exhibition was ok, a lot of people visited it, especially on weekend. Eugenio was there on sunday. Thank you for your visit! But, Ana, you know...we are in the middle of a crisis: anything was sold. However, I think Art-Madrid is a good chance for me. I'm happy with it. If you want to glance at my artistic work, you can visit this web:

http://www.arantxalucas.blogspot.com/

And then,if you want, let me know what do you think about.

Thanks, David, for doing these funny classes. I think you are a very creative person.

I go to the bed...I'm really tired. See you tomorrow!

P.S. Did you see the video that I recomended you in my last post? It's really funny, dear english students! I remember you the URL, clik here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUV5p3nYJbU

Carnival.!

Hello guy!
Have you done the prepositions´exercises? They are very difficult.
Somebody will see the Cadiz carnival? I´d like to see it, because I don´t know it.
Arantxa, How was your exposure? Did you sell some pictures?

What's the weather like today? :-)

Hi guys!!!
I do not see much action going on lately around here. Oh well!!!
i know life is hard and we are all very busy, but let us try to have some fun doing it. Do not take it as an obligation. Just enjoy doing however much you can.
Do not forget to post your assigments in the wiki in the right spots, and here in the blog your reflections.
Talk to you later.

Tuesday, February 10, 2009

This week I have been reading about weather. I think it can be funny to see all of you like forecasters but I am very shy and I think that I don´t mind make mistakes without record but if you record me...I´ll expect the next class with a little bit of nervous.See you later.

My first assessment

Hi everyone! I'm Arantxa and the last class was my first class. At the beginnig, I was a little frightned because I thought I couldn't understand anything. I was worried I wouldn't be able to talk more than two words in english after several years without practicing the language. Fortunatly, our teacher, David, and you, my classmates are very nice. You gave me some confidence to start talking in english as much as possible. Even more, I realized that my english is a bit better that I thought. I felt confident enough to talk.
I had some problems with he computer. The internet connection wasn't good but, in general, it was an amusing class.
I'm trying to do all the homework but this week I' very busy preparing a new art exhibition called Art-Madrid, in Casa de Campo. I'll tell you something about it in the next days.
See you tomorrow!

Monday, February 2, 2009

Hello! I ¨ll try to do it again, after several times I hope this was the time.
In the first class I felt very good because I understood everything that my teacher said and I thought that my english was no so bad. In the second class I realized that I made a lot of mistakes in grammar and also I can´t speak as fluently as I like, I feel like an indio siux so I am not feel so better. I must work hard but I am doing it. It takes a lot of time and I am a mother worker but I´ll try. And you, how do you feel?

tech problems solved

Hi everyone,

I hope this finds you well. A minor tech problemm had caused all these problems so far, especially the frustration for you trying to access unsuccessfully.

SORRY!!!!!!!!!! about it, and I will be indulgent in the sense that I will allow more time to post your week 1 reflections.

I hope you include in them the sense of loss that one gets when tech ruins your plans and you get stuck.

Welcome all of you

Hi everyone!
We start rolling, and here is the place for your weekly reflection and self-assessment on your performance for the work on the course. You have to analyze your feelings, what you have done, what you liked and what you did not, what you have to do in the future, among other reasons that you will see reflected in the following quotes:
"Teachers who write are even more effective in this instructional role because they actively reflect on their writing experiences and processes. Teachers who write bring expert knowledge (of content and language) from tacit to conscious awareness and thus more effectively engage both insider (teacher) and outsider (student) in the teaching exchange.”
“Because it is a personal and private communication, a journal allows the student to honestly reflect and speculate on her/his daily classroom experiences and monitor her/his own learning. For the teacher, the journal becomes a valuable tool for ascertaining the student's prior knowledge and understanding, for identifying any alternative ideas a student might have, and for monitoring the student's progress in the learning process. Keeping a journal is a time-honored way of documenting one's personal thoughts. Styles of journal keeping include the personal or general journal and the content-specific journal. Using a journal … is a strategy for both the teacher and student to gain insight into the student's understanding and learning process.”
These are but some examples of reasons to work on it.
